Mars Forklifts — Our Story (1999–2026)

Where we’ve come from — and the values that continue to guide us forward.

From a single van and a toolbox to one of Australia’s largest independent forklift hire companies, Mario had built the Mars Forklifts story on hard work, honesty, reliability, and a commitment to doing right by every customer. These values shaped our beginnings — and they continue to drive us today.

1999

Mars Forklifts Established

Mars Forklifts was founded in 1999 when Mario left his job as a field service technician at an OEM. He borrowed money to buy his first van, threw his tools in, and had a determination to build something of his own, he began knocking on doors offering service and repair work. This humble beginning laid the foundation for the company’s reputation: hard-working, customer-focused, and committed to quality.

2001

First Warehouse

In 2001, Mars Forklifts moved into its first warehouse on Holbeche Road, Arndell Park. The business focused solely on service and repairs of customer-owned forklifts — no hire fleet, no equipment sales. Mario hired his first employees: two field service technicians and one apprentice, marking the start of the Mars team.

2003 - 2006

Move to Victoria Street

In 2003, Mars Forklifts relocated to a 90-square-metre workshop on Victoria Street, Wetherill Park. Around this time, Mario had purchased and refurbished a second-hand forklift with the intention of selling it.
Late one Friday afternoon, a desperate customer called needing a hire forklift for the next day. Without hesitation, Mario sent out the refurbished machine. That forklift became MG01 — the very first hire unit in the Mars fleet.

This moment marked a major turning point for the business. The hire division officially launched, expanding Mars Forklifts’ offering to include hire, sales, and service. The team grew to four, and the company began to take shape as a full-service provider — laying the foundation for the multi-state operation it would eventually become. 2006 Matthew DiDonato joined the team as an apprentice Motor
Mechanic.

2007 - 2009

First Property Purchase

Mars Forklifts purchased its first factory unit on Victoria Street, Wetherill Park. Sales and hire gained strong traction, and the Mars reputation for reliability and service excellence began to spread. The team expanded to seven.

2009

Expansion Into Larger Premises

By 2008, the hire fleet had grown to 250 forklifts, and space was tight. The team moved into larger premises to support the rapidly growing operation.

2010

Second Warehouse & Overflow Site

Demand continued to rise, prompting the opening of an additional warehouse at Cowpasture Road, Wetherill Park, operating alongside the existing Victoria Street showroom and workshop. This
dual-site setup allowed Mars Forklifts to keep pace with customer demand.

2014

Acquisition & Move to Hassall Street

Mario acquired a small local competitor, further expanding the business. With the hire fleet reaching 500 units, the company relocated to a larger facility on Hassall Street, Wetherill Park to accommodate growth.

2016

Major Growth & First Tilt Tray

By 2016, business was booming. Mars Forklifts purchased the first of its tilt tray fleet, improving transport efficiency and response times. Another shed next door was leased to support the expanding fleet and operations. Alex Conti joined the team as an apprentice Plant Mechanic.

2021

New Headquarters and East Coast Expansion

In 2021, Mars Forklifts moved to a 5000-square-metre site at Chifley Street, Smithfield. The hire fleet reached 1,500 machines, supported by a team of 35 staff. This year also marked the company’s expansion into Queensland and Victoria, establishing Mars Forklifts as a multi-state provider servicing the entire East Coast.

Matthew DiDonato promoted to General Manager.

2024

Wests Tigers Partnership

Mars Forklifts strengthened its community presence by becoming a player sponsor of the Wests Tigers, aligning the brand with a respected national sporting organisation.

2025

Relocation to 477 Victoria Street

In 2025, the company moved into its current headquarters at 477 Victoria Street, Wetherill Park — a modern facility designed to support national-level operations.

In 2025, Mars Forklift Continued its sponsorship of the Wests Tigers.

Alex Conti promoted to Operations Manager.

2026

A Leading East Coast Provider

By 2026, Mars Forklifts reached new heights:

  • Hire fleet surpassed 2,000 machines
  • Team grew to more than 50 staff
  • Operations expanded across NSW, QLD, and VIC, servicing the entire East Coast
  • Continues Wests Tigers sponsorship by sponsoring the Captain Apisai Koroisau.

Today, Mars Forklifts stands as one of Australia’s largest and most trusted independent forklift hire companies — built on the same values that started it all: hard work, honesty, reliability, and a commitment to exceptional service.
